Cooling Capacity

First, determine the size of the area that you want to cool. Measure the area that you wish to cool and note any special features of this area. For instance, be aware of the heat sources, number and size of windows, amount of electronics, and other appliances in the space. This will ensure that you purchase the appropriate sized unit for the area.

Too small of an air conditioner will not give proper cooling performance, but it is also possible to oversize leading to improper cooling as well. Improper cooling may lead to a damp feeling or to uneven cooling in the room.

Unit Size

Also, in order to choose an appropriate unit size, you will need to measure the window width and height or area in which you want to install the air conditioner.

Electrical Requirements

Make certain that the electrical circuit you plan to use is rated for the proper amperage. A/C units are available in 120 volt and 220 volt models.

Types

    There are 3 main types of air conditioners.

    • Window Air Conditioners: are made to mount in windows.

    • Portable Air Conditioners: that can be located nearly anywhere that you can exhaust the heat outside.

    • Wall Mount Air Conditioners: are specifically designed to be installed through a wall.

Split Units
