Air Conditioning Guide

Not much feels better than retreating to a cool house after spending the day working outside in the summer sun. Reward yourself with a new air conditioner that is both quiet and energy efficient.

Below, we have provided information for you to consider as you look for a new air conditioner.

Cooling Capacity: First, determine the size of the area that you want to cool. Measure the area that you wish to cool and note any special features of this area. For instance, be aware of the heat sources, number and size of windows, amount of electronics, and other appliances in the space. This will ensure that you purchase the appropriate sized unit for the area.

Too small of an air conditioner will not give proper cooling performance, but it is also possible to oversize leading to improper cooling as well. Improper cooling may lead to a damp feeling or to uneven cooling in the room.

Unit Size: Also, in order to choose an appropriate unit size, you will need to measure the window width and height or area in which you want to install the air conditioner.

Electrical Requirements: Make certain that the electrical circuit you plan to use is rated for the proper amperage. A/C units are available in 120 volt and 220 volt models.

Types: There are 3 main types of air conditioners.
  • Window Air Conditioners: are made to mount in windows.
  • Portable Air Conditioners: that can be located nearly anywhere that you can exhaust the heat outside.
  • Wall Mount Air Conditioners: are specifically designed to be installed through a wall.

Heat and Cooling Units: You may also want to choose an air conditioner that acts as both a cooling and heating unit. Martin Appliance sells a wide range of models that have such capability.

Split Units: We also offer split units. These air conditioners allow the main compressor unit to be mounted outside and have multiple air outlets installed throughout the house. Professional installation is strongly recommended.

    Special Features:
  • Air Circulators: Oscillating louvers automatically distribute air more evenly.
  • Energy Saver: Once the room reaches the set temperature the compressor and fan shut down to save energy.
  • Quiet Operation: Allows for a more peaceful environment while still cooling your room.
  • Energy Star: Uses less energy thus saving you money.
  • Power Interruption Restart: Retains your setting and restarts at those settings after a power interruption.
  • Timer: Allows you to program your air conditioner to start and stop even when you are not present.
  • Remote Control: Gives you control at your fingertips.
  • Sleep Function: Allows the room temperature to rise slightly while you sleep for maximum comfort.
  • Dehumidify: Removes moisture from the air to reduce humidity.
