Water Heaters

Martin Appliance Water Heater Buying Guide

When you set out to buy a new water heater, there are several options you have to consider including fuel type, size, energy efficiency, and yearly cost. Although we carry several different types of water heaters, we recommend investing in a GE Geospring™ Hybrid Electric Water Heater to save money and energy.

Brands
Martin Appliance is a dealer of AO Smith and GE water heaters.

Choosing a Water Heater involves 4 main choices:

  1. Type - what is most suitable for your application?
  2. Size - how much hot water will you need at a time? Are there any space restrictions?
  3. Energy Efficiency - how efficiently will your water be heated?
  4. Costs - how much will you spend?

Type

  • Conventional Storage Water Heater: A 20 to 80 gallon storage tank is filled with water. A heating element, powered by a fuel of your choice, heats the water in preparation for hot water demand. As hot water leaves the top of the tank, cold water enters the bottom and the heating cycle is repeated.

  • Demand (Tankless) Water Heater: Water passes through a heater installed in a main furnace or boiler. This water is then heated on-demand on its way to the tap, instead of being stored in a heated tank. Demand water heaters are not available at Martin Appliance, due to their inability to provide whole-house demand.

  • Hybrid Electric Water Heater: Achieves the highest energy efficiency by combining a heat pump with heating elements. An evaporator draws in ambient air and uses it to aid the heating process, effectively reducing the energy required to heat your water.
